چکیده

Turbulent flows of viscoplastic fluids at high Reynolds numbers have been investigated recently with direct numerical simulations (DNS) but experimental results limited. For this reason, we carry out an study fully turbulent a yield stress fluid in rectangular aspect ratio channel high-resolution laser doppler velocimetry (LDA) setup. We employ aqueous Carbopol solutions, often considered to be simple fluid. formulate different concentrations address the effect rheology on turbulence statistics approximately constant number. Additionally, also perform experiments single formulation its effect. The flow analysis is performed via measurements, and power spectral densities velocity fluctuations. addition increases anisotropy, enhancement streamwise fluctuations decrease wall normal comparison water same mean velocity. This change reflected fluctuations, where observe large increase energy scale structures. Conversely, smaller scales decreased water, drops steeper than Newtonian law $k_x^{-5/3}$. As number solution, stresses approach values core, which suggests diminishing effects shear-thinning. reveal that content larger decreases slightly However, shear thinning do not disappear even as approaches 50000.

developing turbulent flows in rectangular channels: a parametric study

the developing turbulent flow in an open channel is a complex three-dimensional flow influenced by the secondary currents and free surface effects and is, therefore, not amenable to analytical solution. this paper aims to study the impact of three key hydraulic parameters (relative roughness, the froude number and the reynolds number) on the establishment length using computational fluid dynami...

Dynamic Electroosmotic Flows of Power-Law Fluids in Rectangular Microchannels

Dynamic characteristics of electroosmosis of a typical non-Newtonian liquid in a rectangular microchannel are investigated by using numerical simulations. The non-Newtonian behavior of liquids is assumed to obey the famous power-law model and then the mathematical model is solved numerically by using the finite element method. The results indicate that the non-Newtonian effect produces some not...

A Fully Coupled Newton-krylov Solver for Turbulent Aerodynamic Flows

A fast Newton-Krylov algorithm is presented for solving the compressible Navier-Stokes equations on structured multi-block grids with application to turbulent aerodynamic flows. The oneequation Spalart-Allmaras model is used to provide the turbulent viscosity. The optimization of the algorithm is discussed. ILU(4) is suggested for a preconditioner, operating on a modified Jacobian matrix. An ef...

Elastic convection in vibrated viscoplastic fluids.

We observe a new type of behavior in a shear-thinning yield stress fluid: freestanding convection rolls driven by vertical oscillation. The convection occurs without the constraint of container boundaries, yet the diameter of the rolls is spontaneously selected for a wide range of parameters. The transition to the convecting state occurs without hysteresis when the amplitude of the plate accele...
